Video flipbook from Project 4 - Mass Effect

Bonus points if you head on over to YouTube to watch in HD. I actually took the full 6 megapixel images into Final Cut Pro, and made a full HD (1080p) video, but it came out at 1.4GB, too big for Flickr or Youtube, so I had to compress a little, but I think it still came out pretty good.

Still Shooting!

Not sure if anyone is still following this blog or the RSS anymore, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to plug some stuff I've been shooting lately. (Click the images below to go to the corresponding album).

Last Friday morning, I had the opportunity to shoot a friend's kids out in west Eugene.

And later that evening, the UO Cultural Forum hosted the 3rd annual World AIDS Day Condom Fashion Show, so 2 of my photo buddies and I brought our cameras. Because of the horrid lighting, I ended up doing a lot more post-production work on these images.

Then on Saturday, a friend performed in the semi-weekly "Comedy Workout" at Diablos. I shot several photos here, but haven't gone through them yet (just finished the 2nd shoot above tonight). The lighting here has got to be the worst I have ever tried to shoot in, so thank god for the f/1.4 lens I had access to!

On Sunday, my friend David, his roommate and I went on a photo-adventure to Shotgun Creek OHV. Having soooo many digital images to go through, I didn't want to take many, so I brought my film camera and my last 1.5 rolls of film I had from last spring. Shot about a roll worth, but it was pretty dark so I didn't have a chance to shoot too many.

Finally, after that shoot, David and I pooled together some lenses we owned and/or had access to for a somewhat unscientific shootout of 50mm lenses (f/1.4, f/1.8 and f/2.5 macro), and a comparison of the Canon 50mm compact macro to the Tamron 28-70mm f/2.8 macro/medium telephoto. Documented the bulk of these tests at my main blog:

Final Project Images (and then some)

And these are some extras that didn't quite make the final cut.

Concept for Project 4: Critical Mass

The concept I started with when I went out shooting was "textures". But some objects got in the mix, and I kept getting distracted by markings (graffiti, utility marker paint, love scratching in hand rails, etc), and I have always had a thing for photographing grids and patterns-- symmetry poses unique challenges in and of itself. In paring down the images from 168 down to 100, I tried to narrow down most of the utility marker paint and graffiti, as this didn't relate to my concept as much (maybe another project). I also wanted to spend a little extra effort on the binding process, the glue is drying now, I hope it pays off!

Project 3: Maps Redux

I have a bad habit of letting my desk get horrifically messy. I thought I would document and dramatize how bad it actually gets sometimes. I photographed it before and after cleaning it, but the before composite is much more interesting. And now my desk is clean, so I win, hopefully ;-)

Since "finishing" my project for Tuesday's class, I decided to clean up a detail or 2. And given the irregular edges of the images, I decided they could use a uniform border around the sides.
