So the one photographer I've looked into recently, and have been impressed by, is Denis Darzacq. Who's work I would describe as a more modern, more constructed interpretation of Henri Cartier-Bresson's work. Really using the concept of Bresson's "Decisive Moment", often in an urban setting. Darzacq has done at least 3 series of these images. "La Chute" in 2005-06, "Sans Titre" in 2006, and "Hyper" in 2007. The first three images above are from "La Chute", and the last one is from "Hyper".
I find myself mainly trying to capture photographs, rather than constructing them, but Darzacq's work is inspiring in that you can create outwardly interesting images even in monotonous locations such as a grocery store. If I were to shoot in a grocery store, I think I would grab a macro lens and primarily shoot close-ups of products. Denis's work is inspiring to conceptualize a series, and work it until perfected.
